Annual Awards

The Society for Arts Entrepreneurship Education recognizes outstanding contributions to the field of creative and arts entrepreneurship in ways of innovative research, pedagogy, and advocacy.

CONFERENCE AWARDS

Established in 2018, these awards are presented in recognition of outstanding conference paper and case submissions and workshops presentations during the Society’s annual conference.

Gary D. Beckman Research Impact Award
The SAEE Gary D. Beckman Research Impact Award recognizes researchers who have completed or nearly completed research studies focusing on arts entrepreneurship and can demonstrate how their findings impact the field of arts entrepreneurship.

Best Workshop Award
The SAEE Best Workshop Award recognizes arts entrepreneurship educators who develop dynamic workshops to share modules, exercises, lessons, and pedagogical ideas that can be utilized by other arts entrepreneurship educators.

SHARON T. ALPI AWARD
for INNOVATIVE ARTS ENTREPRENEURSHIP PEDAGOGY

The Sharon T. Alpi Award for Innovative Arts Entrepreneurship Pedagogy was established in 2016. Through a donation of an anonymous donor, it is to be awarded for three years, with $500 to be given to an educator (or group of educators) to support the continuation of their pedagogy.

Dr. Jeffrey Nytch

Dr. Jeffrey Nytch - 2020 Recipient
Jeffrey Nytch enjoys a diverse career as a composer, educator, arts administrator, and thought leader in the field of arts entrepreneurship. His compositions have been performed throughout the U.S. and Europe by artists such as Richard Stoltzman, the Colorado Symphony, the NY Chamber Symphony, Seattle Symphony, and many others. Nytch also served six seasons as Managing Director of The Pittsburgh New Music Ensemble (“PNME”), during which time the group grew its audience by 500% and tripled its budget. Since joining the faculty of The University of Colorado-Boulder as Director of the Entrepreneurship Center for Music (in 2009), he has built the centers into one of the leading programs of its kind. In recognition of his work with the ECM, he received the Excellence in Specialty Entrepreneurship award from the Global Consortium of Entrepreneurship Centers. Nytch is in wide demand as a speaker and scholar, having delivered papers at numerous national and international meetings of artists and entrepreneurs, including the closing keynote address at the First International Conference on Arts Entrepreneurship in Oslo, Norway. He is frequent guest clinician at schools and conservatories nationwide, and also uses principles of entrepreneurship to inform his strategic planning consulting for small arts organizations and institutions launching programs in arts entrepreneurship education. His groundbreaking book, The Entrepreneurial Muse: Inspiring Your Career in Classical Music Oxford University Press, 2018) applies theories of entrepreneurial practice to a performing arts setting.

Dr. Mark Rabideau - 2018 Recipient
Rabideau’s pedagogical innovation, the online textbook, The 21CM Introduction to Music Entrepreneurship (Rowman & Littlefield, 2017) prepares the next generation of arts leaders to build a more promising future, driven by the belief that education is a lifelong process of learning how to make the world a better place. Jim Hart - 2017 Recipient
Hart’s pedagogical innovation involves the use of carefully designed games to develop a deeper understanding of entrepreneurial thinking, skills and problem-solving. His blog Arts Entrepreneurship Games (https://artsentrepreneurshipgames.com) offers games, simulations, demonstrations and exercises for the arts entrepreneurship classroom, which can be used by teachers as a supplement to lectures. These games have been compiled into a book Classroom Exercises for Entrepreneurship: A Cross-Disciplinary Approach, which includes 65 original exercises to teach entrepreneurship. Read more.
